Redefining the 17'' laptops

The Dell XPS 17 is a powerful laptop with a slim and lightweight design that makes it simple to carry. The expensive price and absence of legacy ports, on the other hand, may deter some people from investing in this premium laptop. No other laptop line has been able to compete with the MacBook Pro as persistently or for as long as the Dell XPS series. While the smaller versions combine mobility and performance, it has always been about giving as much power and screen real estate as possible for those who want a bit more.

Dell XPS |Unboxing

It comes in a simple but elegant box. Box contains a power cable, the laptop does not have USB ports or HDMI ports but they do give you the dongle in the box to not buy it separately. It also contains a 130-watt power brick powered by USB C.

Dell XPS 17 | Price

Starting the Dell XPS 17 review with the Dell XPS 17 price. The new Dell XPS 17 is one of the best laptops you can buy if you’re looking for a larger work machine, with superb performance and a brilliant display packed into an appealing, slender body. The Dell XPS 17 price starts from $1549 and goes up to $2,949.

Intel Core i5-11400H processor, 8GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD, and a 17-inch 1200p this Dell XPS 17 display costs around $1,549.You may, of course, upgrade almost every component to a more powerful version, and we strongly advise you to do so. That base setup is enough for everyday work, but there’s no reason to pay more for a 17-inch laptop unless you’re planning on doing some heavy lifting with it. You can upgrade to the Intel Core i7-11800H with 32GB of RAM, a 4TB SSD, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060, and a 4K touch Dell XPS 17 display is for $3,749 (£3,899, AU$6,998).

NVIDIA® GeForce RTXTM 3050 4GB GDDR6 [60W], 16GB, 2x8GB, DDR4, 3200MHz, 1TB M. Intel® CoreTM i7-11800H, Windows 11 Home, NVIDIA® GeForce RTXTM 3050 4GB GDDR6 [60W], 16GB, 2x8GB, DDR4, 3200MHz, 1TB M. 17.0-in. PCIe NVMe Solid State Drives. It costs around $2,099.99 which is approximately 375,166.57 Pakistani Rupee.

That is a hefty laptop. The right-hand arrangement, which costs $2,949, is a touch more affordable. Although the 4TB SSD in the fully loaded version is wonderful, it’s not worth the extra $800 – especially because you can update the SSD later.

Dell XPS 17 | Design and Display

Next in the Dell XPS 17 review is the design and display. The XPS 17 is a beautiful laptop, which should come as no surprise. It looks like the MacBook Pro all silver and with a Dell logo on the back of the screen. And, unlike the MacBook, it features a soft surface on the laptop’s deck, making it far more comfortable to use.

It is a very nice-looking machine, not only the Dell XPS 17 screen is giant but also the exterior design. It’s got this nice angular shape that is distinctly XPS. It is not just like a clone of Apple products it’s uniquely theirs the XPS 13, 15, 17they all have that same kind of boxy polygonal design language which think looks amazing.

Screen

The Dell XPS 17 screen is probably the best part about XPS 15 and 17. It’s got thin bezels, this nice aspect ratio that is great for work and the panels are bright and color accurate. You don’t need to work with full brightness but if you’re working outside or under the sun the brightness is amazing.

The Dell XPS 17 display has an average brightness of 464 nits and covers more than 100% of the sRGB color gamut. Although it falls short of the DCI-P3 color spectrum of 99 percent, which would make it a genuinely professional display, this makes the display appropriate for media work.

Keyboard

The keyboard comes next in the Dell XPS 17 review. Of course, the XPS 17’s 17-inch size gives it a lot more keyboard deck area, and Dell uses it in an unexpected way here. Instead of a complete keyboard with a Numpad, as many laptops in this size class do, Dell uses a conventional laptop keyboard with speakers around it.

There will undoubtedly be many who prefer a full keyboard, but the speakers that Dell was able to install sound excellent. The speakers are crisp and can keep up with the gritty guitars and highly bass-heavy music.

Even though Dell didn’t go much farther with the keyboard than the XPS 15, it’s still a well-paced and comfortable keyboard. One thing that can irritate some people is the tiny up and down arrow keys, which will only bother those who use Excel or Google Sheets frequently. I also personally prefer the Numpad but overall the keyboard is on point. Plus the material that they have used like the resin coating put on the top of carbon fiber is so much better than the materials that they used in the previous years. It is less sticky and gummy and it doesn’t hold the fingerprints as much but most importantly just ages better.

Weight

The weight of the Dell XPS 17 comes up next in the Dell XPS 17 review. With a width of only 0.77 inches, the Dell XPS 17 is a very thin laptop. It weighs just 5.34 pounds (2.5 kilograms), making it easy to put into your bag and take to work – which is especially beneficial given the laptop’s high power.

One drawback is the lack of connectors. The laptop only features four Thunderbolt 4 ports, an audio jack, and an SD card slot since it’s too thick to accommodate anything else on the chassis.

While we wish the Dell XPS 17 laptop had at least one USB-A or HDMI connector, we understand why Dell was unable to include such ports. But the connector comes in the box so if that is not an issue Dell XPS 17 laptop is a good choice to go for.

You may also update the Dell XPS 17 to save money in the long run. The Dell XPS 17 laptop can support up to 64GB of RAM. Simply loosen the eight hex screws on the bottom of the laptop and pull the bottom of the case off to open it. It will be challenging at first, but you can easily upgrade your RAM and system storage once you are in there.

Dell XPS 17 review | Performance

The Dell XPS 17 has an 11th-generation Intel Core CPU and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that it eats up most workloads with ease.

It can easily hold its own in games because of the dedicated GPU, averaging about 52 frames per second in Metro Exodus at 1080p with everything set to Ultra. With a few tweaks to the settings, even the most demanding games will run at a consistent 60 frames per second at 1080p. But that isn’t the purpose of the XPS 17.

Due to the Dell XPS 17 display, the laptop excels in creative tasks, thanks to the 4K display. Whether you’re using Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, or Blender, you’ll save more time on this laptop than you would on the current MacBook Pro, owing to the CUDA cores in the RTX 3060.

When you combine the strong discrete graphics with the RAM and the powerful, high-wattage H-series processor, you get a laptop that can be used to edit 4K video on the go without being a complete pain.

Dell XPS 17 review | Battery life

The Dell XPS 17 battery life ranges between 7 to 9 hours. It lasts a long time on a charge for a big, powerful laptop with a 4K display. But other laptops can last for more than 10 hours. On the bright side, the dell XPS 17 battery lasts longer than the XPS 15. Although, much longer battery life would be great, with the 4k display and high brightness that seems a bit difficult atm.

Dell XPS 17 review | Camera and microphone

The webcam is only 720p, which is not a great image especially now when we are working from home more frequently and need to use our laptops for more and more video meetings, but It’s not the worst camera either if you’re in a well-lit environment, you can still get a lot of information from it.

The camera does the job, but if you’re going to be using this laptop while plugged into a display, you might want to invest in a webcam. But fortunately, the built-in microphone performs admirably. You do not need a separate microphone because the voice through inbuilt one is very clear.

Dell XPS 17 review | Photo and video editing

Next in the Dell XPS 17 review, we have the photo and video editing features. Editing photos and videos is a breeze with this program.

The laptop features internals about as powerful a Windows laptop as you can buy right now. Thanks to its 11th-generation Intel Core i7 CPU, 32GB of RAM, and a discrete Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card, this can compete with powerful desktop PCs. The body is 0.77 inches thick, it is also unusually thin for such a large computer.

Power comes at a price. Dell XPS 17 price is high as compared to other laptops available in the market. In other words, it is an expensive laptop. If you don’t do a lot of video editing or graphic design regularly, there are lots of alternative notebooks that might be a better match. Even if you want something specialized for gaming, there are cheaper options available, like the Razer Blade, which has identical features.

The Dell XPS 17 is designed for the mobile creative worker who needs a powerful and adaptable PC that is also beautiful and won’t seem out of place in an office. However, its brevity becomes somewhat of a liability in this sense, as the port selection isn’t quite what you’d expect.

Dell XPS 17 review | Software and features

Software and features are the last specs we are discussing in our Dell XPS 17 review. In XPS 17 many programs come pre-installed on the system but the majority of these programs are hidden and utilized only when you need to update or connect to your phone. Dell XPS 17 laptop comes with a McAfee trial as well.

It has two biometric login methods you can use either a fingerprint scanner or Windows Hello through the webcam on the Dell XPS 17. It unlocks swiftly, and the fingerprint scanner is also the power button for the laptop, so you don’t have to move your hand.
