Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 Review: Design and Durability
It comes with a strong Armor Aluminum bodyguard gorilla glass Victus display. It is scratch-resistant and drop-resistant. According to Samsung the Z Fold 3 has a new protective PET film that when combined with “optimized” main screen layers results in an 80% more durable screen.
It comes with IPX8 water resistance but not dust resistance. It measures 6.2 x 2.6 x 0.56 to 0.62 inches when it is close and 6.2 x 5 x 0.25 when open. 158.2 x 67.1 x 14.4-16 mm folded and 158.2 x 128.1 x 6.4 mm unfolded. And it weighs 9.5 ounces.
It comes in 3 colors, phantom green, phantom black, and phantom silver.
The speakers are quite powerful but surprisingly a little quieter than on the ZFlip3 or Galaxy S21 Ultra. It has been reported that it maxed out at 92.7dB at 6 inches. The speakers are loud and clear. It delivered clear quality while listening to songs or taking calls. At very loud it plays 103.3dB playing a music video folded open.
For calls, due to the narrow design, it makes it quite convenient to hold it up to your head but it is too heavy to hold for a long period. Using Bluetooth headphones is a good option since there is no headphone jack. Perhaps Samsung wants you to use their wireless earbuds. When you hold the Fold, you cover at least one of the speakers with your hand, so the sound is often muted.
The Samsung Galaxy Z fold3 sounds like little muffles when you stand it on a desk.
Overall, the sound quality is solid.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 Review: Display
The Galaxy Z Fold 3 features two displays: a 6.2-inch OLED cover display and a 7.6-inch main screen once you unfold the device. The main display looks spectacular as a new under-display camera is used. The punch hole, the UDC, is nearly invisible when you go full screen for pictures or videos. When the display is dark, it is barely noticeable.
The scrolling is smooth because of the 120Hz adaptive refresh rate.
The new display is rated to be 29% brighter than before because of the new eco display technology used. The resolution for the interior screen is the same as before at 2208 x 1768 pixels.
The main display is still a 7.6-inch, corner to corner display with a Foldable Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel, with a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ support. This is something no pocketable device can offer right now.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 5g Review: Camera
The Samsung galaxy z fold3 brings a new under-display camera. It has one of the best camera features from the Galaxy S21 Ultra, like Single Take (Dynamic Video) and Director’s View (which allows you to use the back and front camera at once)
Includes a rear selfie camera and a selfie view mode which allows you to see your live preview on the right and your photos on the left.
The rear cameras consist of a trio of 12MP lenses. There is an f/1.8 wide-angle shooter, an ultra-wide f/2.2 camera with a 123-degree field of view, and a 12MP telephoto camera
The camera is good but not as such as the other flagship cameras available in the market. Especially when it comes to sharpness and specifically, edge sharpness and low light performance and video, etc.
It takes vibrant, colorful, and sharp photos although the detailing could be improved. However, it is not as sharp as the iPhone 12 pro and does not have the zooming power of Galaxy s21 ultra.
In daylight pictures, it struggles to deliver the same amount of details as an iPhone. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 has a really good night camera that makes out the colors to be more realistic.
There is a 4MP front-facing camera inside, under the display for video chatting mostly, and a 10MP front camera.
You only get just a 2x optical zoom and 10x digital zoom with the Galaxy Z Fold 3.
Nonetheless, for a phone priced at around 1700 dollars, the camera is a tad bit disappointing. It could be improved.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 Review: Performance and Firmware
The Galaxy Z Fold 3 Is a multitasking powerhouse. It has the Multi-Active Window feature, which not only allows you to run two apps side by side (dragging and dropping content between them) but also allows you to run up to three apps at once.
A Snapdragon 888 chip runs the show, and it’s backed by 12GB of RAM. There’s also 256GB of internal storage standard, though you can opt for 512GB.
In everyday use, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 provides a swift performance.
On Geekbench 5, which measures overall performance, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 notched 3,418 on the multi-core portion of the test and 1,107 on the single core.
That competes with the Galaxy S21 Ultra (3,400/1,123) but the iPhone 12 Pro Max (4,100/1,600) is far beyond it.
The Samsung mustered 33 frames per second, compared to 39 fps on the iPhone 1 2pro Max which is not that far behind.
On our video-editing test, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 took 50 seconds to transcode a 4K video to 1080p which is faster than the Galaxy S21 Ultra’s 1 minute and 2 seconds but still slower than the iPhone 12 Pro Max’s 28 seconds.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 Review: Special Features
There is an enhanced App pair feature that allows you to create shortcuts for two apps in the same way they were opened and you had them opened.
Since constantly having to swipe from the right side to open the edge panel can be inconvenient and annoying, Samsung has added taskbar features that just sit there like the window taskbar, and it lets you switch between apps easily and smoothly.
It is great when you constantly have to swipe in from the right side to open the Edge Panel to see these and other apps.
Another cool feature is the drag and split features. You can simply drag one app over to the right to open a new window.
Several apps support the Flex mode when it is used as a laptop. You can force the flex mode to appear in apps as well. Flex mode puts the content up and the controls at the bottom, like a laptop. Samsung is working with 3rd party developers to roll out more apps that work natively with the Galaxy Z Fold 3. For example, Netflix, Snapchat, Youtube, Spotify, and TikTok.
Chrome is now an optimized app for the Samsung galaxy Z fold 3. It allows you to use chrome in the same manner as a desktop-like being able to move the tabs around etc.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 Review: S Pen Support
The S pen now finally supports Samsung galaxy Z fold 5g which is something a lot of people had been looking forward to. It makes making notes, sketches, and mark-up documents very easy.
But, unfortunately, even though the stylus will work with the phone, it is not included and not built-in. It is an accessory that you can simply buy on top of the 1799$ which is quite bizarre and you will need to purchase a specially designed case for it as well.
There are 2 S pens available in the market, the $49 S Pen Fold Edition and the $99 S Pen Pro.
The S pen fold is simply a writing instrument that is now designed with a special retracting softer tip to reduce damage to the screen as much as possible, specifically designed for the fold3.
The S pen pro offers Bluetooth connectivity for supporting features such as Air gestures.
Some of the S pen powered features include productivity boosters such as Screen Write (a markup feature), Smart Select (which allows you to pull text and pictures out of other apps), and translate (in which you can simply tap words to find out their translation in different languages)
